A Typical Autumn Saturday Afternoon in New England

For my 2nd piece, I painted a picture that I call "A Typical Autumn Saturday Afternoon in New England." For creating this piece of artwork, I used acrylic paints and white paper. This piece of artwork is 9.5" h and 7.5" d. This piece of artwork has a sky blue color as the background, and an enormous tree in the foreground. In this tree, there are leaves the color of what they would be around this time of year in New England; red, orange, yellow, and brown. Also, in this picture, I included a small man raking the falling leaves to emphasize the largeness of the tree. Another thing that I added to make this painting look more realistic, is the bag that the leaves are being put into from Lows. I think that the idea and the design turned out well, but I think that the craftsmanship could have been better. I think that I should have made this picture should have been less 'cartoon looking,' and more realistic looking. This is the only thing that I wish that I could change in this picture. The meaning of this picture is to exaggerate how beautiful the trees may be in New England towards this time of year, but it mostly exaggerates how much work there is to it too. What I learned most about doing with this project is to always do the background layer first! In my opinion, I think that making this picture more detailed would make it more meaningful to me. I really enjoyed painting this past quarter, but I think that I should expand my horizons and use other materials in my artwork too.

Falling Apart

For my 1st project, I made a piece called "Falling Apart." In this piece, I used clay and glaze to make it. It is 7" w, 5" h, and 6" d. This piece is of a flower that is "falling apart," but the fun part of this piece of artwork is that not only is the flower "falling apart," but so is the vase. The vase's paint was done in a way to make it seem like it was spilling out, or all over the place. I made this piece of artwork like this because of how unrealistic it is, which also helps make the piece more eye-catching and interesting. I made some leaves on the base of this piece to go along with the title, and to go along with what the vase looks like. In this piece, what I think came out well is the design, craftsmanship, and idea. The only thing that I wish I could change is the colors. I wish that I knew exactly what colors it would be when I picked out the glazes. The only problem was, was that I didn't know what colors were what with the glazes, and I just had to improvise when it came to choosing colors. This project shows my love for flowers put into a 3-dimensional form. I learned for next time that I need to be more cautious of how smooth I make my edges, and I gained a better ability in making the clay pieces go in the direction that I wanted them to go. The shapes of the petals and the actual flower is what I value the most in this project. I really enjoyed making this project, and I hope to do more clay pieces in the future!
