Falling Apart

For my 1st project, I made a piece called "Falling Apart." In this piece, I used clay and glaze to make it. It is 7" w, 5" h, and 6" d. This piece is of a flower that is "falling apart," but the fun part of this piece of artwork is that not only is the flower "falling apart," but so is the vase. The vase's paint was done in a way to make it seem like it was spilling out, or all over the place. I made this piece of artwork like this because of how unrealistic it is, which also helps make the piece more eye-catching and interesting. I made some leaves on the base of this piece to go along with the title, and to go along with what the vase looks like. In this piece, what I think came out well is the design, craftsmanship, and idea. The only thing that I wish I could change is the colors. I wish that I knew exactly what colors it would be when I picked out the glazes. The only problem was, was that I didn't know what colors were what with the glazes, and I just had to improvise when it came to choosing colors. This project shows my love for flowers put into a 3-dimensional form. I learned for next time that I need to be more cautious of how smooth I make my edges, and I gained a better ability in making the clay pieces go in the direction that I wanted them to go. The shapes of the petals and the actual flower is what I value the most in this project. I really enjoyed making this project, and I hope to do more clay pieces in the future!
